Every branch of Yoga has it`s own system to move from Yama and Niyama, Asana, Pranyama to Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. This systematic practice takes us from the gross to the more subtle layers of our being.
In Raja Yoga we are mostly familiar with example of Sage Patanjali`s Yoga Sutras, and the 8 limbs of Yoga which is presented from the Samkhya viewpoint. During this programme we will explore Raja Yoga from the Vedic perspective.
Pranayama is the tool we use to control, awaken, and increase prana in the body
Pratyahara means to withdraw the mind from the impressions of the senses. According to Sage Patanjali pratyahara is the 5th limb or step of 8 in Yoga sadhana.
Throughout the weekend we will move through the steps of yoga from Yama and Niyama to asana and pranayama and with practice of Yoga Nidra and Pratyahara techniques towards the experience of withdrawing the mind from the impressions of the senses.
Whilst the senses are active the body, mind, memory, and prana are disturbed, and we cannot experience meditation or peace. These distractions need to be acknowledged and dropped to move to the higher stages of yoga sadhana.
If travel is not possible, the programme will take place on Zoom.
